スパイラリス — Albuca spiralis
南アフリカ原産の球根植物。地際から伸びる細い葉が、地面の近くでくるくると螺旋（コルク栓抜きのよう）に巻きます。
この巻いた形は、強い陽射しと乾いた風にさらされる土地で生き抜くための姿だと言われます。まっすぐ伸びるのではなく、ねじれることを選んだ葉。
春には、淡い黄緑の花を咲かせ、夜になるとバニラのような甘い香りを漂わせます。螺旋は、歪みではなく、その場所で咲くために選ばれた形なのかもしれません。

まっすぐ伸びたかったのに、環境に削られて螺旋になった花。「違う」と言われがちなその歪んだ形を、欠点ではなく、生き抜くための適応として——むしろ誇りとして歌いたいと思いました。
ルールどおりにまっすぐ伸びなかったから、この花は変われた。過去の歪みを無理にほどかなくていい。ねじれたまま、あなたは美しい。
